Cat Lencke is a watercolor artist based in Memphis, TN specializing in both Fine Art and illustration.
Following her B.A. in Fine Art and French in Chester, England, Cat pursued her passion of photography working as both a portrait photographer in Belgium and later, a Fine Art photographer in the US. After many years in this field, her desire to create, using her hands and tangible tools, led her to return full circle to her childhood roots; painting.
Cat’s years in photography have led her to create evocative and atmospheric semi-abstract pieces through the powerful use of light in her watercolors. Whether it be an early morning sunrise over the lake, the misty rays piercing through the rolling and forested mountains or the setting sun flooding the streets of the city, light will almost certainly be integral to her work.
As well as her semi-abstract landscapes, Cat finds beauty in producing highly detailed illustrative pieces. Often time, the intricate process itself of breaking down reference pictures into the most simplistic form; shape and line direction, bring a deepened awareness and sense of awe for nature and design around her.
