Lauren Matsumoto is a painter exploring how we relate to nature. She is known for her use of a hybrid form of painting and collage that creates an innovative dialogue between the two mediums. Her work employs a light, sophisticated color palette informed by her Scandinavian and Northern European roots. Matsumoto has an international collector base, with works held in collections across Europe, Asia, Australia, the Middle East and North America. She holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York and a BA in Painting from Yale University. Her unique perspective on ornithology was inspired by growing up around birds owned by her grandfather, a professional bird breeder. She lives with her son and her husband in the lower Hudson River Valley region of New York.
